Paquera is a Bird Watcher's Paradise!

Paquera has a large population of Howler Monkeys and Capuchin Monkeys than can be seen and heard in nature reserves and around the community.

Howler monkeys are a common sight in the forests of the Paquera. Their loud howls can often be heard echoing through the trees, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the community.

Key characteristics:

 

Mantled howler monkey (Alouatta palliata): This is the most common species found in the Nicoya Peninsula. They are known for their distinctive black fur with a reddish-brown mantle on their shoulders.

​

Capuchin monkeys are another common scpecies found in Paquera These intelligent and agile monkeys are known for their distinctive hooded appearance and their use of tools.

 

You can also find the Central American spider monkey (Ateles geoffroyi) on Island San Lucas off the shores of Paquera. These monkeys are easily recognizable by their long, slender limbs and prehensile tails. They are often found swinging through the treetops.
